Stock market recap: BSE Sensex, NSE Nifty50 ended previous session with modest gains
Equity markets closed the previous session with only modest gains after a largely directionless session, highlighting the cautious approach investors were taking amid elevated geopolitical uncertainty and rising crude oil prices. BSE Sensex gained 43.27 points, or 0.06%, to settle at 78,542.44, while Nifty rose 13.15 points, or 0.05%, to 24,583.80.
Sensex moved within a range of more than 378 points during the session, showing that intraday volatility remained despite the lack of a meaningful change by the close. Gains in technology and consumer-facing stocks helped offset weakness in banking shares.
Realty, consumer durables, capital goods and IT were among the sectors that advanced, while PSU banks and some housing finance stocks declined. Going ahead, investors could continue to assess whether earnings momentum can offset pressure from higher energy costs and geopolitical risks.
