Before the suit, the title, and the unending parade of official royal duties took over his life, Prince William had a couple of surprisingly normal – and slightly hilarious – backup plans.During an unexpected turn on The Graham Norton Show alongside Cate Blanchett, Hannah Waddingham, and Robert Irwin, the Prince of Wales pulled back the curtain on what he almost became. When Norton nudged him on whether he’d ever dreamed of a standard 9-to-5, William admitted his first instinct was law enforcement.“I did want to be a policeman when I was younger,” he said with a grin. “I thought I could make a good policeman.”Turns out, swinging a nightstick wasn’t the only phase he went through. He soon confessed to another, far less conventional ambition that completely caught the audience off guard: a brief stint trying to break into music.“I went through a phase where I wanted to be a DJ, which didn’t go very well,” he admitted as the sofa burst into laughter. He even picked out an alias. “I came up with a name… I was called DJ Xara, with an X. It wasn’t good.”Beyond his long-abandoned DJing dreams, William dropped a few quick takes on his favorite screen time. He gave a huge nod to Christopher Nolan, pointing out that The Dark Knight trilogy’s psychological grit is right up his alley. On the TV front, he admitted his household is completely hooked on The Celebrity Traitors, noting that Charlotte and Louis refuse to miss an episode. The lighter conversation served as a warm-up for his real mission on the show: raising awareness for the Earthshot Prize. William explained that he grew exhausted by the endless doom-and-gloom narrative surrounding climate change. He built the initiative to pivot the global conversation away from anxiety and toward actual, working solutions.Seeing a future king joke about a DJ moniker on late-night TV shows just how much the monarchy’s public image has shifted. Back in the day, kings and queens spoke to their subjects through rigid, scripted radio speeches – like King George V in 1932 – or carefully staged TV broadcasts, a medium Queen Elizabeth II pioneered in 1957. Today, connecting with people means trading stiff formality for a chat show sofa, proving that a little self-deprecating humor goes a long way.
