A small act of help can sometimes reveal a lot about how people treat one another. A recent Reddit post about an incident at Gurgaon’s Ambience Mall has sparked a conversation online, not just about a lost wallet, but about trust, courtesy, and the way security guards are treated when something goes wrong. The post was shared by a visitor who said they helped return a wallet to its owner. What followed reportedly left the visitor disappointed, while a later conversation with mall guards offered another perspective on how they deal with similar situations. The story has since prompted other social media users to share their own experiences of helping strangers and receiving little acknowledgement in return.

The Reddit user said they spotted a wallet near an entry gate while entering the mall through the parking basement on a Saturday afternoon. It reportedly contained cash, government IDs, and a debit card. The visitor handed it to a security guard and stayed for some time to ensure it reached the person who had lost it.The visitor later learned that the owner had been looking for the wallet and had accused the security guards of stealing it from his parked car.

According to the Reddit post, the owner checked the cash as soon as he received the wallet. The visitor said neither they nor the security guard received any acknowledgement. The Reddit user recalled, “He took the wallet and the first thing he did was start counting his cash. He didn’t even acknowledge the security guard or me. No thank you, no smile, just a weird look towards the guard and he walked away with an attitude.”The response reportedly left the visitor questioning how such interactions can affect people’s willingness to help others.

Later that day, the Reddit user said they spoke to the security guards again while leaving the mall.According to the post, the guards said they regularly face harassment, taunts, and insults when people lose their belongings and assume security staff are responsible. One guard reportedly told the visitor, “Bade log hain, unko hum kya keh sakte hain”.The comment stayed with the Reddit user and became an important part of the discussion.

The post soon attracted comments from people who said they had faced similar situations. One person wrote, “A similar incident happened with me also in 2018 in Cyberhub and there was no acknowledgement.”Another commented, “The way people treat security guards and waiters tells a lot about their character.”Some users, meanwhile, appreciated the Reddit user’s decision to help despite the unpleasant experience. One commenter wrote, “You did a good thing. Take a thank you from me. Just because of a couple of bad and ignorant people, we shouldn’t lose faith in humanity.”Disclaimer: This article is based on a social media post and comments shared online.
