Hosting the 73rd Academy Awards in 2001, he wove it into razor-sharp bits, blending philosophy with pratfalls. His memoir ‘Born Standing Up’ frames it amid 18 years of grind: writing for ‘The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour’, Emmy wins, and hits like “King Tut”.<!-- --> Surprise fueled his albums ‘A Wild and Crazy Guy’ and HBO triumphs.<span class=\"id-r-component br\" data-pos=\"19\"\/>Martin shocked himself by quitting peak stand-up in 1981 for films, starring in ‘Father of the Bride’ and ‘Roxanne’.
