George Lucas is one of the most influential filmmakers and storytellers in the world. Best known for creating the legendary Star Wars franchise, Lucas transformed the world of cinema with his imagination, creativity, and innovative ideas. Born in California in 1944, he initially wanted to become a race car driver, but life took him in a different direction after a serious accident during his teenage years. Over time, he discovered his passion for filmmaking and went on to create stories that inspired millions across generations. His journey itself is proof that talent can appear in unexpected places and that discovering one’s true ability often takes time and exploration. One of the most inspiring quotes attributed to George Lucas is “Everybody has talent, it’s just a matter of moving around until you’ve discovered what it is.”

26 May 2026 | 14:25

This is an inspiring quote on self-discovery, confidence, and patience. Children should know that every person has some talent or gift that has not yet been discovered. Some children compare themselves to others and get frustrated when they cannot do things like them instantly. But Lucas’s quote encourages children to experiment with diverse interests without being scared of failing.Furthermore, there is an essential lesson on the importance of experimentation. A child can try out various talents like painting, making music, playing sports, doing science, writing stories, dancing, or even doing charity work. Great people have often tried numerous activities until they discovered what worked best for them. For example, George Lucas once wanted to become a racecar driver but later became one of the greatest filmmakers of all time. He would have remained a racing enthusiast if he had stopped experimenting and tried something else. This teaches children the beauty of finding one’s true talent.Another crucial lesson in this quote is that talent develops with effort and perseverance. Sometimes children think that talent implies being born good at something right away. However, this is not true: even talented individuals train to become more skillful. Finding one’s talent is just the first step; developing it by being patient and persevering is also essential. A child, who loves drawing, can get better at it by practicing on a daily basis. On the other hand, a person, who likes playing sports, needs regular training to succeed. Hence, this statement motivates students to study harder and never give up in spite of obstacles. This quote encourages children to gain self-confidence and believe in themselves. Every kid is a unique individual possessing traits and qualities that make them different from the rest. Some children are extroverts and imaginative, whereas some other kids are intellectual, considerate, and sympathetic. Talent includes not only excellent results in studying and success in the future career but also kindness, problem-solving, ability to entertain others, and caring attitude towards family members and friends. George Lucas tries to teach children that they all have something useful to contribute to society.Nowadays, in such a dynamic environment, many children might experience stress when feeling compelled to succeed rapidly. The aforementioned quote serves as a friendly reminder for them to enjoy the process of discovering oneself. One does not have to worry about not knowing what they are good at in the very beginning; trying out various activities, making mistakes, and being curious are parts of self-improvement. Parents and educators may also benefit from this piece of advice, as they should motivate their children to explore their interests independently. The quote by George Lucas emphasises that everyone has hidden talents. While they cannot always be apparent at once, with time and curiosity, people may discover them. Moreover, the quote acts as an inspirational source for children as it encourages them to develop their self-belief and keep exploring everything happening around them. Above all, it implies that each individual is unique and has the potential to achieve wonders in life.

What’s the one parenting advice you completely disagree with?
